Right-hander Barry Latman, who won eight games for the 1959 American League champion White Sox, passed away April 28, just weeks shy of his 83rd birthday.
Latman was with the Sox for three seasons (1957–59) and also pitched for the Indians, Angels and Astros in his 11-year major-league career. He was on the ’59 Sox World Series roster, but didn’t appear in the fall classic vs. his hometown Los Angeles Dodgers.
With Latman’s death, only seven of the 40 players who saw action with the ’59 Sox are still alive. Hall of Fame shortstop Luis Aparicio and pitcher Ken McBride are the only ones remaining from the 25-man World Series roster.
