Athletics sweep White Sox with bases-loaded single in 14th inning for 12-11 victory

Matt Olson singled off the left-field wall with two outs and bases loaded to give the Athletics a 12-11, 14-inning victory over the White Sox in a game that lasted 5 hours, 48 minutes.

Olson’s hit came off James Shields, who was scheduled to start Friday for the White Sox. He came out of the bullpen in the 14th and got two quick outs before Marcus Semien singled and stole second. After a couple of walks loaded the bases, Olson delivered a shot over the head of Nicky Delmonico in left.

It was the longest game for the White Sox since they played 6 hours, 19 minutes in a 19-inning affair against the Red Sox in 2006 and completed the A’s three-game sweep of the series.
