ARLINGTON, VA. – It was impossible to ignore the contrast.
In one corner of the Canadiens dressing room at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex on Friday, defenceman Karl Alzner was holding court with a throng of reporters.
He will play against the only NHL team he had ever known for the first time when his Canadiens face the Washington Capitals on Saturday. It is a big moment for him, as he recounted while standing near where he sat to get dressed for his first rookie camp practice session with the Capitals in 2007.
It will be the 542nd consecutive game of Alzner’s career, the third-longest streak for a defenceman in NHL history.
