La Russa also noted that Vaughn, the No. 3 pick in the 2019 draft, has “no fear” and that he works from left-center to right-center, “which is what high-average hitters do, produce a lot of RBIs, a lot of home runs, they start a lot of rallies.”
Vaughn, 22, is trying to make enough of an impression to make the major-league roster and help fill the void at designated hitter.
“Last year was tough, not getting to have a (minor-league) season at all,” Vaughn said. “So getting to come to spring training and be kind of normal is just amazing.
