The outfielder played for the Sox from 2014-16 before he was traded to the Washington Nationals for pitchers Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez and Dane Dunning.
“We want to provide (manager) Tony (La Russa) with as many quality options as possible, and Adam has been added to the mix,” Sox general manager Rick Hahn said Thursday.
He has a career .282/.360/.416 slash line with 60 home runs and 289 RBIs in 831 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2012-13), Sox (’14-16) and Nationals (’17-20).
“Adam plays with an edge,” Hahn said. “He’s got a chip on his shoulder.
