For Matt Skole, the phrase "better late than never" could not be more relevant.
Skole, 28, made his MLB debut Monday after exactly 2,500 career at-bats in the minor leagues. The White Sox called him up from Triple-A Charlotte after placing slugger Matt Davidson on the disabled list.
Skole rewarded the White Sox for the opportunity almost instantly. Starting at first base and hitting fifth, Skole not only hit a single on the first pitch he saw in the MLB, but he also hit a home run his second time up.
First pitch, first hit.
