Cincinnati was heavily shopping Frazier over the course of the past week, and the White Sox were one of several teams that had serious talks with the Reds. The Kansas City Royals, Cleveland Indians, and the Dodgers also pursued Frazier, though Los Angeles ended up being involved to help facilitate the trade of Frazier to the White Sox.
The Reds are in the process of blowing up their roster as they have decided to start rebuilding their club. After trading ace Johnny Cueto to the Kansas City Royals during the trade deadline last season, they nearly dealt star closer Aroldis Chapman to the Dodgers before talks broke down. Chapman is still on the trade block, as is second baseman Brandon Phillips, who the Washington Nationals are heavily pursuing.
Frazier won the Home Run Derby during All-Star weekend in Cincinnati this year and had one of the best seasons of his career for the struggling Reds, batting .255 with 35 homers and 89 RBIs.
