Chicago White Sox ace Chris Sale has been diagnosed with a fracture in his right foot and could possibly miss the team's Opening Day contest against the Kansas City Royals.
The team announced on Saturday that Sale is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of three weeks. Foot injuries can be tricky and difficult to heal, however, so a longer stint on the shelf is not out of the realm of possibility.
Per an Associated Press report, "Sale, who was injured in an accident at his home on Friday, had X-rays of his foot Saturday at a hospital in Glendale. He'll have more tests after the swelling goes down."
The 25-year-old lefty went 12-4 with 208 strikeouts and a 2.17 ERA last season, finishing third in the American League Cy Young Award voting. He is expected to lead a revamped starting rotation which includes marquee offseason free-agent pickup Jeff Samardzija.
