Missed Opportunity: Chicago Fire lose a chippy away match to Sporting Kansas City 1-0

In a match where they had plenty of chances, the Chicago Fire weren’t able to convert any of them, falling to Sporting Kansas City 1-0 on the road Wednesday night at Children’s Mercy Park.

The match was choppy at times, with a number of hard fouls. There were eight yellow cards handed out in total, and both teams seemed sluggish.

“We expected a really difficult game on the road,” Fire rookie defender Mauricio Pineda said after the match. “I think we knew that from the start. We knew we had to start strong, and I think we did.
