Subbing on for Kamil Grosicki with Poland up 1-0 in the 83rd minute, Frankowski nearly scored on his first touch upon taking the field. Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski played a low cross into the six-yard box for Frankowski to finish, but Latvian goalkeeper Pavels Steinbors managed to push the attempt over the bar from close range.
