Two Chicago Fire players and one Chicago Red Stars player have agreed to participate in this season’s Playing For Pride fundraiser.
The fundraiser, which runs all season, will raise money for Athlete Ally, an organization dedicated to advocating for queer athletes at all levels of sports. Per their website, their mission is to “end the rampant homophobia and transphobia in sport and to activate the athletic community to exercise their leadership to champion LGBTQ equality.” Some of the organization’s achievements include an Athlete Equality Index to rate LGBTQ inclusiveness in college athletics programs, working with the NCAA to develop and implement new inclusive policies and resource guides for athletes and coaches, and successfully lobbying the International Olympic Committee to implement protections on the basis of sexual orientation in the Olympic Charter.
