MONTREAL, Quebec (Aug. 16, 2017) – After a first-half scoring burst from the host side, the Chicago Fire (12-6-6, 41 pts.) were unable to secure a result in a 3-0 defeat to the Montreal Impact (9-8-6, 33 points) in Canada on Wednesday night.
The Impact got on the board early on courtesy of Ignacio Piatti. The Argentinian Designated Player collected the ball on a deflection played into the Fire 18-yard box, and put an open shot past goalkeeper Matt Lampson to make the score 1-0.
The home side increased their lead just before halftime, first when Matteo Mancosu drew a penalty on Lampson on a run into the box.
