Chicago Fire sporting director Georg Heitz said one of his goals is to make the roster younger heading into the 2021 season. The club’s latest signing will help with that.
The Fire have acquired 21-year-old defender Jhon Espinoza from SD Aucas in Ecuador. He’s under contract through the 2023 season, with club options for 2024 and 2025, and he becomes the 15th player on the Fire roster age 23 or younger.
“Jhon is a talented, young right fullback who will be a great addition to the Club,” Heitz said in a statement. “With Jhon’s signing, we’ve added another player who will provide more competition and quality within the roster heading into next season.
