Your weekly baseball moment of Zen: No-hitter edition

No-hitters are the perfect type of random baseball event. In a given season there will be a handful of them, but you’re just as likely to see one thrown by a wily veteran on the verge of retirement as you are from that year’s All-Star starting pitchers. A team like the Cubs can go decades without throwing a no-hitter only to throw six in a the last 16 seasons. Some of them are beautiful, masterful gems thrown by a pitcher at the peak of his powers a la Jake Arrieta against the Dodgers in 2015, while others are quite improbable when you look at the number of hard hit balls that just all failed to fall for a hit, a la Alec Mills’ no-hit effort against the Brewers in 2020.
