Willson Contreras has been out since August 3 with a grade 2 hamstring strain that was expected to keep him out for nearly a month, but all indications are that he’s nearing a return. It was announced prior to Friday’s Players’ Weekend opener that the catcher would travel with the Cubs when they head to New York for three games against the Mets, which could be significant.
Cubs catcher Willson Contreras will travel with the team to New York for the series against the Mets after this homestand. If he continues to progress well, should be able to ramp up baseball activities there.
