Where’s the beef: Carl Jr’s fastball is tough to chew on for hitters

There was a time when Carl Edwards, Jr. looked lost on the mound. He’s always had the stuff, but his fastball command was missing and he’d walk batters at an untenable rate. But something has changed.

Edwards’ teammate Aroldis Chapman wows crowds and demoralizes opponents with his breathtaking triple-digit heat. For years, no one got more swing and misses on their four-seam fastball.

But it may be time for Chapman to relinquish that crown to his new teammate. According to Brooks Baseball, Edwards’ 37.6 percent whiff per swing rate on his four-seamer (minimum 200 pitches) is tops in baseball in the Pitchf/x era.
