Cubs manager David Ross noticed his players were “grinding” by the end of their series in Colorado last week.
“Felt that way, for sure,” he said. “We didn’t play our best brand of baseball there on that road trip at all, to be honest.”
All month, Ross has leaned on the proven players who helped drag the team into playoff contention. Injuries forced a lineup shake-up on Tuesday, giving Alexander Canario his first major-league start at designated hitter, and sliding Christopher Morel over to third base.
