MIAMI — Yet another Cubs youngster made his major-league debut on Thursday in outfield prospect Mark Zagunis. It didn’t come with as much fanfare as previous arrivals, and the righty didn’t deliver in impressive fashion like other Cubs prospects did in their first game. But he still helps provide some much-needed depth. Zagunis arrives at a time where the Cubs are facing a bit of a challenge, with the struggling Kyle Schwarber demoted and both Jason Heyward and Ben Zobrist on the disabled list.
Manager Joe Maddon hoped the pitchers would step up during this time and general manager Jed Hoyer hoped his team would fight through the struggles and come out stronger.
