We’re going live: Cubs home opener running blog

It’s 3 p.m. on a sunny, cold Chicago afternoon and Sahadev Sharma and I are at Wrigley Field, waiting to go in the hottest new club in Wrigleyville, the Home Clubhouse.

Construction is afoot around the park and in the park — I almost got nailed by a pole walking up a ramp to the pressbox — and the metal detectors are lined up outside the entrances. Some familiar sights are gone. McDonald’s has been torn down, the 7-11 is closed. Starbucks has moved into that bar on Sheffield Ave.

I walked around for awhile before the game, stopping in for a late lunch at El Burrito Mexicano, which was a favorite pre-game meal for the Cincinnati Reds beat back in the day.
