Anthony Rizzo got the scoring started with a towering 3-run blast in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Javy Baez made a gem of a defensive play to rob Paul DeJong of a sure single with a runner on base in the top of the 4th inning. But the story today was Kyle Hendricks.
Hendricks pitched perhaps his finest game as a member of the Chicago Cubs. He threw a complete game shutout and needed only 81 pitches to do it. That was good for 2.7 pitches per batter and, in case you weren’t totally sure, that’s pretty good.
