As you can probably tell analytics are not my specialty, but I have begun to noodle around on FanGraphs and some other sites to begin to teach myself some of the basics about the new statistical tools for measuring baseball performance. If you wonder why in the world would I want to do such a thing, then just file it in the category of old dogs learning new tricks for fun and enlightenment.
In any event, though I am very late to the party, I have become fascinated by the stat referred to as WAR, which is an acronym for Wins Above Replacement.
