It started and ended with a little magic.
First, there was John Lackey, who somehow managed to wrangle himself out of a couple early-inning jams on his way to six innings of one-run ball, just missing his sixth consecutive win since the All-Star break. And almost four hours later, there was El Mago himself, Javy Baez, scoring the winning run on a walk-off wild pitch to give the Cubs a 7-6 win over the Reds on Wednesday night at Wrigley Field.
In between, there were some home runs, a little rain and a lot of yelling, the latter of which culminated in manager Joe Maddon’s ninth-inning ejection, his second of the season.
