With Friday’s rainout and not much Cubs news since, I thought I’d post another history item today, as it’s the anniversary of a significant achievement in Cubs history.
Fergie Jenkins put together several good seasons for the Cubs in the late 1960s and early 1970s, winning 20+ games six years in a row, back when that meant something, and winning the NL Cy Young Award in 1971.
When the great Cubs teams of that era were broken up after 1973, Fergie was traded to the Texas Rangers. He spent the next eight years with the Rangers and Red Sox, and contemplated retirement after posting a mediocre season in 1981.
