Three up, three down: An update on the Cubs, September 9 edition

Last week’s installment of this series celebrated a great Cubs road trip, in which they went 8-1. They won the final six games of the trip and had some great performances.

Then they came back to Wrigley Field and lost four of six, and apart from Wednesday’s 12-0 no-hitter against the Pirates, the Cubs scored just five total runs in the other five games and got shut out three times. Yikes.

Nevertheless, let’s find some good before we review the bad.

Wednesday’s no-hitter was a game for the history books

It was the Cubs’ second combined no-hitter, and the first Cubs no-hitter at Wrigley Field in 52 years and two days, since Milt Pappas no-hit the Padres Sept.
