There will be no shutting up and playing baseball within the Cubs organization, team president Theo Epstein told reporters Friday.
Epstein was referencing the oft-criticized comments made by FOX News anchor Laura Ingraham two years ago against NBA players speaking out on racial injustice in America. With athletes today using their platforms to call for societal change in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death at the hands of Minneapolis police, Epstein made it clear where the Cubs stand.
“Our players have heard the message loud and clear that we want them to express themselves and be themselves and that we see them as people and as citizens, not just as players,” Epstein told reporters Friday on Zoom.
