The ‘Road to 25’ continues for Cubs, with two roster spot battles

PEORIA, Ariz. -- The Cubs cut 10 pitchers on Monday, bringing their spring training roster to 50 players.

Four players on the 40-man roster were given minor-league assignments; right-handed pitchers Aaron Brooks and Jose Rosario and left-hander Jack Leathersich headed to Triple-A Iowa, while righty Duane Underwood was assigned to Double-A Tennessee.

Non-roster invitees Casey Kelly, Seth Frankoff, Jhondaniel Medina and Conor Mullee (all righties) were sent to minor-league camp along with lefty Zac Rosscup. Right-hander Maikel Cleto was released.

These aren't the Cubs of four or five years ago where there were numerous roster spots up for grabs.
