For a couple hours on Monday morning ahead of the Cubs’ home opener at Wrigley Field, the clouds parted and The Park at Wrigley officially opened for business.
Cubs president of business operations Crane Kenney implored the assembled crowd, which included Cubs dignitaries and employees, Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel, community representatives and fans, to offer up a round of applause for Mother Nature, which I’m sure she appreciated.
The weather might not cooperate completely for Monday night’s matchup with the Dodgers, but the brand new Park at Wrigley, a parking lot in a former life, was bathed in sunlight as people milled about the lawn, sample cups of Starbucks Reserve Rwanda Hingakawa coffee in hand.
