Yesterday the Cubs signed an interesting but oft-injured pitcher in Matthew Boyd. With the deal coming in at two years and $30 million it’s pretty clear they see him as a starter. The more research and time I spent processing this free agent signing the more I convinced myself that I’ve seen this movie before, because there are a lot of indicators that this signing has a lot in common with the original signing of Drew Smyly after the 2017 offseason.
