In the last five seasons Montreal's AHL affiliate has struggled. With just 164 wins in 380 games, the Hamilton Bulldogs and St. John's IceCaps only managed to qualify for the post-season once, and were quickly eliminated in the first round.
Now that the Canadiens have invested a considerable amount of money in building the state-of-the-art Place Bell in Laval, Marc Bergevin has focused on assembling a team that can not only win more games, but draw fans to the arena.
The opening night roster is set and the Rocket appear to have one of the strongest lineups in the AHL, despite losing players like Charles Hudon and Jacob De La Rose to the Canadiens, and former captain Max Friberg to Frölunda HC in the Swedish Hockey League.
