Named for legendary pitcher Denton True “Cy” Young, the Cy Young Award is awarded at the end of each season to honor the best pitcher in the league that season. For the first eleven years, one award was given to the best pitcher in all of baseball. Since 1967, an award has gone to the best pitcher in each league.
Winners are chosen by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Voting is restricted to one writer for each of the major league franchises.
In the 59 years since the award was first given, the Cubs have had five winners.
