I have made note over the last few days that Cubs manager Craig Counsell has trotted out basically the same lineup, game after game after game, despite getting poor results most days.
I haven’t done any sort of deep dive into his lineups in Milwaukee to see if he did the same sort of thing when his team was slumping, but it occurs to me that shaking things up just for the sake of doing something might actually work.
Beyond that, I believe there’s another problem with the way Counsell is using his 26-man roster. As the headline states, basically he’s been playing with 23 guys because there are three players — David Bote, Miles Mastrobuoni and Patrick Wisdom — who are almost never in the starting lineup and sometimes don’t play at all for days.
