After a nail-biter on Friday afternoon, Saturday evening’s Cubs-Yankees matchup was all but called after the first half-inning. The Cubs found themselves in an almost-immediate five-run deficit and trailed by eight runs before eventually losing 11-6.
Some hard decisions were made prior to the game – outfielder Matt Szczur was designated for assignment to add another arm to a beleaguered bullpen – and after a disastrous start from Brett Anderson and relievers working 8 2/3 innings, more moves are certain to come Sunday.
‘It’s been embarrassing.’
After his 1 1/3 innings of work Monday, Anderson already had a rather tenuous hold on his spot in the rotation heading into his start on Saturday.
