A year ago at this time, many were saying that the 2023 Oakland Athletics could be historically awful.
It should be noted that after 16 games, the 2023 A’s were one game better than the 2024 White Sox. Oakland was 3-13 and the Sox are currently 2-14.
The A’s then went on a horrific run that left them at 10-45, which meant they went 7-32 after that 3-13 start. They won, a bit, including seven in a row at one point, but still finished 50-112. That made them just the fifth team in the expansion era to lose 112 or more games, joining the 1962 Mets (40-120), 2003 Tigers (43-119), 2018 Orioles (47-115) and 2019 Tigers (47-114).
