Swing-and-miss artist Carlos Martinez stifles Cubs — but comeback corroborates team’s motives

ST. LOUIS – Defending World Champions don’t look for moral victories. But after roaring back from down 3-0 in the ninth to tie the game up, only to lose 4-3 to the St. Louis Cardinals on a walkoff single by Randall Grichuk, Anthony Rizzo and the Cubs seemed rather upbeat.

“Hunger,” Rizzo said when asked why this team isn’t going to have a letdown after finally winning the World Series. “I think we’re all still chomping and want to really, really make names for ourselves. We could have easily just folded and lost 3-0. It was a big comeback right there and it’s nice.
