Sunshine and lollipops: Cubs take first live batting practice of spring

MESA, Ariz. -- Live batting practice has never been so riveting.

After a weekend of overcast skies and rain led to most workouts being held indoors, a little sun and outdoor baseball was what everyone was looking forward to Monday.

But before the on-field activities began, strength and conditioning coach Tim Buss was supposed to lead some kind of skit, the type of antics that manager Joe Maddon loves during the spring.

Buss had something extravagant planned to entertain the team, but alas, the still wet grass apparently kept them from executing a bigger idea that should come later in camp, Maddon said.
