That’s why despite the Cubs leading all of baseball with a 2.65 starters’ ERA going into Saturday, there’s been a lot of talk about the rotation’s collective dip in velocity.
The four returning starters are all down at least a full mile per hour on their fastballs and even Brett Anderson is down a tick from what he did in 2015, his last full season.
After speaking with some scouts and front office members around baseball, the consensus seemed to be that this velocity dip was due to three issues.
