So when is a no-hitter not a no-hitter? Tuesday evening I was looking forward to seeing Ian Happ’s home debut with the South Bend Cubs but was treated to so much more. What a bizarre game! Erick Leal was spectacular – pitching 9 full innings of no hit baseball. Unfortunately, Kane County’s pitcher held the Cubs’ offense scoreless through those same nine innings. When Leal walked off the field after the top of the ninth, the crowd was pumped for a walk off win. Alas, it was not to be as the Cubs failed to score, sending the game to extras.
