ST. LOUIS — Someone once said, “The key to winning baseball games is pitching, fundamentals, and three-run homers.”
It was either the late Baltimore manager Earl Weaver or current Cubs catcher Willson Contreras. I’m not sure which one. I get them confused.
On a night where little was going the “Cubs Way,” Contreras took control off the narrative with a game-tying three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning.
And it felt like we were right back where we left off, like picking up a dog-eared book and diving back into the story.
And then the Cardinals showed they’re hometown heroes too.
