Congratulations are due this evening to Cubs righthander Shu014dta Imanaga, who was named to the National League All-Star team as the club’s representative for the game which will take place Tuesday, July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Imanaga is the first Cubs rookie to be named an All-Star since Kosuke Fukudome and Geovany Soto were All-Stars in 2008, and also the second Japanese-born Cubs All-Star after Fukudome.

Imanaga has a 7-2 W/L record with a 3.16 ERA (32 earned runs in 91 innings) in 16 starts this season for the Cubs.

He won his first five starts, becoming the fourth pitcher in Cubs history to start a season undefeated with five or more wins in their first nine starts (also Ken Holtzman, 1967, 6-0; Carlos Silva, 2010, 6-0 and Jake Arrieta, 2016, 8-0).
