The Phillies did the Cubs a favor over the weekend, winning three of four from the Braves while the Cubs swept the Nationals.
That moved the Cubs to within three games of the Braves for the last wild-card spot. Of course, in reality that’s FOUR games behind, because if the teams wind up tied, the Cubs would lose the tiebreaker. They’d also lose the tiebreaker against all the other wild-card teams.
So this climb will not be easy. But right now, it sure looks more possible after the Cubs’ 8-1 road trip and current six-game winning streak.
