Roberto Perez had to stop looking at the scoreboard.
His season numbers were plastered all over it during every at-bat, stalking him like someone 47 weeks deep on an Instagram profile. In the midst of his struggles, focusing on his batting average was only making things worse.
“It’s hard when you’re hitting .160 and you look at the scoreboard,” Perez told The Athletic. “You want to perform, and you’re not hitting the way you’re capable of. I stopped looking at the scoreboard and trying to put a lot of pressure on myself.”
Second, he had to get back to some of the basics of his hitting profile.
