Just four days after the Chicago Cubs promoted third baseman Kris Bryant to the big league roster, it appears that another top prospect will be joining this young team sooner than expected.
According to CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman, the Cubs will officially call up 21-year-old infielder Addison Russell, joining the team that traded for him in exchange for both Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel from the Oakland Athletics.
In his final game with the I-Cubs, Russell recorded a pair of hits including a RBI double in the 4-3 win over the Oklahoma City Dodgers Monday evening.
