The Cubs offense that was on display in Kansas City over the weekend went “clunk” in Cincinnati. The team managed just three hits and Jameson Taillon was smacked for a pair of homers and the Reds defeated the Cubs 7-1.
Honestly, I didn’t think Taillon threw too badly, but he threw two bad pitches at the worst possible times — with runners on base. That led to a two-run homer (Will Benson) and three-run homer (TJ Friedl) and with the Cubs bats disappearing in this game, the first of those would have been enough.
It wound up being the worst start of Taillon’s 2024 season, six runs allowed without completing the fifth inning, 81 pitches thrown to record 13 outs.
