MIAMI -- Major League Baseball is investigating racist Instagram posts directed at Chicago Cubs pitcher Carl Edwards Jr, a league spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday.
The team also reacted to the posts, which came after Edwards struggled in his first few appearances of the season before he was demoted to Triple-A Iowa.
"We were shocked by the racist, profanity-laced social media message sent to Carl Edwards Jr. earlier this month," team president Theo Epstein said in a statement. "We vehemently condemn the content of the message and are supporting Major League Baseball's investigation to identify the person responsible.
