There’s a guy I know who grew up as a Pirates fan, loving Andy Van Slyke, Barry Bonds, a young Tim Wakefield, heck, even Orlando Merced, Jeff King and Al Martin.
But he lives in suburban Chicago now, the Age of the Cub, and his wife is a Cubs fan and his son says the Cubs are his first favorite team.
The Pirates, he allows, are his second favorite team. Two years ago, the husband and wife tried to convince their son to love their team more. Ever a smart-ass, he said the Cardinals were his favorite through the postseason.
