So pretty much all year, the Cubs starting rotation has been nails, while the bullpen has been a carnival roller-coaster ride.
Thursday night, instead, we were “treated” to the spectacle of last year’s ace, Justin Steele, have his second straight bad outing against the Pirates, while the bullpen kept the game close with three-plus scoreless innings.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough and the Cubs came up short in a 5-4 loss, dropping their record in one-run games to 8-9.
Steele got himself behind before the first inning was over. A leadoff single was followed by a pair of outs, the second one very close to an inning-ending double play.
