Derrick Pouliot, one of the most disappointing first-round picks in Penguins history, has finally been traded. The deal has felt imminent for the past year.
Interestingly enough, the Penguins used the player who once was their top prospect to help replenish their system.
Jim Rutherford has been open to trading Pouliot for a while and the Vancouver Canucks finally came calling. In return, the Penguins received a 2018 fourth-round pick and defenseman Andrey Pedan, a physical prospect they believe has legitimate NHL potential.
“Pedan is a player we like a lot,” Jim Rutherford said on Tuesday afternoon.
