Asked last Friday about Pedro Strop, manager David Ross said the reliever was “getting close” to be an option for the Cubs bullpen. The righty had been at the alternate site in South Bend to ramp back up after signing a minor-league deal in the wake of his designation for assignment by the Reds. Strop made only four appearances for Cincinnati and hasn’t pitched since August 7 after being placed on the IL with a right groin strain.
“The pitch data is still a little bit down on him,” Ross explained. “We want to get him built back up a little bit more.
