The name Juan Soto was getting thrown around an awful lot in this offseason, almost as much as that other big name (Ohtani), but it looks like the Soto deal was the first to be made official, as the slugger heads to the New York Yankees in a move that sends five players back to the Padres.
Centerfielder Trent Grisham comes to New York along with Soto, and heading to San Diego are pitchers Michael King, Jhony Brito, Randy Vásquez, and Drew Thorpe along with catcher Kyle Higashioka.
The baseball hivemind has been busy reporting on the move from every possible angle, so we’ll get to those pieces first.
