Baseball isn’t leaving St. Petersburg, FL any time soon, thanks to a major hurdle the Rays cleared today. The City council voted in favor of the Rays stadium deal, meaning the team has found its home for the next thirty years. Specifically, the vote was to confirm approval for construction and funding of the new stadium.
It’s worth noting that the Rays stadium deal was announced after the A’s declared their move to Las Vegas and things are moving along at a much speedier clip on the east coast.
Now, this isn’t the final say for the deal, as it still needs to pass the Pinellas County commission, which will take place July 30th, at which point things will finally be confirmed to move forward.
